Ochre Rock Panels Elevate Rockport Performing Arts

A crowning architectural achievement, the Shalin Liu Performing Arts Center in Rockport, MA, opened to the public in 2016 to much fanfare.

Vision, Warmth, and History Sing in Rockport

Epstein Joslin Architecture, located on a small winding Street in Harvard Square, was tapped by the community of Rockport, Massachusetts to revitalize their aging concert venue, now known as the Shalin Liu Performing Arts Center.

Alan Joslin and his team did a spectacular job of rebuilding, in its original form, the historic exterior of this Rockport venue. On the interior, however, Alan envisioned a different and truly one of a kind experience.

By designing the back wall of the performance hall as a floor-to-ceiling glass lookout, Alan and his team enabled the audience an intimate performance with the artists against a breathtaking backdrop of the Atlantic Ocean.

To mirror the distant granite boulders surrounding the pay, Alan called on the team at Surface Shop to create a custom blend of Ochre Blend Rock Panels to adorn the walls of the hall.

The final result was a performance hall covered by news publications around the world as one of the most intimate and awe-inspiring venues to open in decades. Bravo!
